I sleep through class one day and I wake up at noon to find a 6 page thread on the Red Patch Boy's forum reporting that Ives Galarcep is saying Honduran playmaker Amado Guevara could be with us in time for our season opener on the 29th. Click here to read Ives' article on ESPN Soccernet - and, for the record - Ives is a VERY reliable source.

Who is Amado Guevara? According to Chivas USA last year, he was worth their Designated Player spot, though things didn't work out for him and the Goats. In 103 appearances for the Red Bulls/Metro Stars, however, he scored 32 goals (0.31 goals per game), winning league MVP honours in 2004. The much-coveted Dwayne DeRosario has scored 44 goals in 162 appearances (0.27 goals per game) for the Earthquakes and the Dynamo. In New York, Guevara registered 36 assists in his 103 games (0.35 assists per game), while DeRo has registered 40 in 162 games (0.25 assists per game).
With playing more games the goals per game average is bound to go down - but does this show that Guevara is as effective as DeRo. Quite simply, yes.
Mo Johnston and John Carver: Do everything in your power to get this guy here.
If you read my thoughts on our game against the Earthquakes you will remember I rated Pacheco's play quite highly in the dismal performance. I told Mo to do the same thing - get him here. However, we had no other potential "No. 10". Choosing between Amado Guevara and Victor Pacheco is no question. Amado Guevara.
Since I've begun this post, Ive's has reported TFC might be planning on using a 4-5-1 formation. This would allow Guevara to slide right into the team in front of Robbo and Edu and behind Dichio. Assuming this happens, look for a trade involving Jeff Cunningham for another winger. Looking at who is with the team now and who is "close to signing", we might look something like this at Crew Stadium (BMO 2) on the 29th:

Now, can you imagine if we sign Kiki Musampa? I, for one, am feeling very optimistic today.
Of all our potential signings - Guevara is the most significant - for me, ahead of Kiki Musampa. It will be VERY interesting to see how things progress with Guevara in the coming weeks.
For those of you who are unconvinced, watch this:
