Suwon Samsung Bluewings win Pan Pacific Championship

It looks like the Los Angeles Galaxy's best chance for silverware in 2009 has come and gone, and as expected, the Gals have walked away with nothing. In last night's Pan Pacific Championship Final, Suwon Samsung Bluewings beat them in penalties, after the two tied after 90 minutes.

I watched most of the match, and it certainly wasn't very pretty. A Sean Franklin own-goal put LA 1-0 behind in the first half, before Mike Magee scored a 89th minute penalty to even things up. The match went straight to a penalty shootout, where Edson Buddle hit his shot over the net, and Kyle Patterson had his shot saved. Suwon scored all of theirs, and won the shootout 4-2. The third place match was won by Oita Trinita beat Shandong Luneng Taishan FC 2-1.

I stumbled across the game and caught the last 10 minutes of this match (can you even call it a match?).

I don't understand why LA is in the Pan Pacific, but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with Beckham and selling jerseys, but we all know where that is going.

Crowd attendance was poor, although they did give many shots of their small groups of supporters scattered throughout the stadium.

As for the quality of game, poor. After reviewing the PK given to LA, I agree that it was valid... but almost seemed to picture perfect to give it in the 89th minute, maybe to allow LA the chance to win some hardware with out Donovan/Becks? However, I was pleased that Suwon won in a game where the points don't really matter (I should save that for Seattle!).
