Training Notes - March 11, 2009

It's matchday two in Charleston today. We take on DC United at 5:00, with Real Salt Lake against the Charleston Battery up at 7:15. Normally I'd do a full match preview, but since it's only pre-season, I'll just give a basic rundown here.

You probably noticed on Saturday that John Carver didn't include Pablo Vitti in his starting eleven. I read on the live blog on TorontoFC.ca that Vitti didn't play because he picked up a slight knock. He was just being rested - so I'm going to assume that he would have played if he was healthy. He's one player I'm really excited to see in action. Adrian Serioux will be playing. He was sent off on Saturday, but because this is just a pre-season tournament, he won't be suspended. That's pretty good for us because it'll let him gel a bit more with our other defenders.

I'm curious to see if Stefan Frei gets the call in goal today. Sean Keay mentioned on the Footy Podcast on Monday that Greg Sutton was being rested because he had picked up a knock. Carver has said that he's using this tournament to figure out his best eleven, so if Frei gets the call tonight and on Saturday, I think we know who'll be starting in Kansas City.

DC United lost 3-0 on Saturday to Real Salt Lake, and finished the match with nine men. It will be an interesting match for us. United are one of our Eastern conference rivals, and are looking to come back strong after a poor season in 2008.

Today's Links

From Gerry Dobson: "Central defense appears to be a question mark; however, nobody seems worried as more personnel moves seems imminent." Looks like a new centre half could be coming in.

Nana Attakora-Gyan was injured in Canada's 1-0 loss to T&T the other day, but it's apparently not as serious as was originally feared.

The New York Red Bulls have signed former Real Madrid and Barcelona midfielder Albert Celades. I'm going to guess he slots right into their starting eleven.

From Seattle: Freddie Ljungberg speaks! Looks like the interview is from a news show...TSN, take notes.

DC United have acquired goalkeeper Josh Wicks from the LA Galaxy. Interesting move - Wicks isn't exactly good...
