Finally - a rumour about an incoming centre half, albeit from MLS Rumors. According to the source of this rumour, 28 year-old Ecuadorian international defender Jose Luis Perlaza is on trial with us. He was in Ecuador's 2006 FIFA World Cup squad, and recently released from Centro Deportivo Olmeido.
Nigel Reed hinted at this in his blog today: Carver confided he and GM Mo Johnston are aiming to recruit another defender before the midweek transfer deadline. If the deal is done it will add extra experience at the back and increase competition for places - a scenario for any coach to relish.
To top it off, Rohan Ricketts confirmed that he is in fact with the team on the Footy Show podcast today.
Perlaza's hair is terrible, but he's apparently a pretty good defender. One thing I'm sure of is that he can't be worse than Kevin Harmse or Marco Velez. A commenter on the MLSR post says that if he does sign for us, he'll be one of the best defenders to ever play in MLS. Take that with a grain of salt - and let's not get too excited until we see a press release.
