Toronto FC announced today that Johann Smith has been waived. This is probably to help make room for Ali Gerba.
We signed Smith last August on the day the transfer window closed, and Laurent Robert was released to get him. In fact, if I recall correctly, we sent New England an international spot to move up in the allocation order in order to acquire Smith. This is obviously a signing that hasn't worked out. Despite all of his speed and potential, he never really seemed to settle in or be able to make an impact for us.
He's a really cool guy though, so I wish him the best of luck.

This club has way to many 'really cool guys' though, and I don't mean that in a bad way. Greg Sutton - really cool guy when I met him. Todd Dunivant - really cool guy when I met him. Rohan Ricketts - really cool guy when I met him. Tyrone Marshall - really cool guy when I met him.
I was super disappointed when Sutton got released, but then I had to think about it, was that because of his contribution to the team or because I genuinely like the guy? It's great for the team to have players that can be liked by the fans (well at least this one fan) for more then their contribution on the field. At the same time it just makes it harder when we're constantly having players in and out of the team.

Yeah, I'm with Anon here. It'd be 'really cool' if we could go on a long winning streak for a change. Nice guys finish last. Give us a mean sumbitch who can light up the scoreboard every time!
